How to use a Basic Page

Use a basic page to highlight informational content, often long-form text. Most pages on your site will be basic pages. The Basic Page is highly flexible to provide detailed information about a focused topic.

Required fields

Every Basic Page must have the following information:

Page Title

The page title will show at the top of every page and in breadcrumbs. Use 75 characters or less.

Summary

The summary provides a short description of the page. The summary does not show on-page but instead is used for search results, social media, or assistive technology. This field can also be referred to as the Meta Description. Use 160 characters or less.

Body

The body is the section in which you will add page content, including flexible components.

Featured image

Basic pages can include an optional image at the top of the page. The image should add a meaningful visual to the page. Don’t use logos, branding, or images with overlaid text as the featured image.

Summary Box

The Summary Box provides at-a-glance information at the top of a basic page.

Table of Contents

The table of contents shows visitors a list of links at the top of a Basic Page. These are “jump” links that take users further down a long page. Enable the table of contents by selecting the checkbox when editing the Basic Page. The links that show correspond to headings styled as Heading 2 in the text editor.

Last updated date

Use the last updated date to set the date when the content was recently revisited. This can be extra helpful for pages that have time-sensitive information or content that changes based on law or regulation.
